Gary King
Gary currently presents Smooth FM's London weekday breakfast show and Saturday afternoon 2-6pm nationally across the UK.
Gary also presents Totally 80’s on 20 stations across the UK. In 2007 Totally 80's won Best Regular Music Programme in 2007’s European Radio Awards beating Pete Tong's Essential Collection into second place. It also won best syndicated show at the New York Radio Awards for best networked show. Gary has been voted by The Radio Magazine in both 2007 and 2008 in the top 10 of best music programme presenters.
Prior to this Gary presented Jazz FM's drive time show having been born under the sign of jazz, his father a swing drummer. Instead of driving round the streets pumping out dance music as a teenager, it was the music of Jeff Lorber that soundtracked Gary and his mates' road trips and prefigured his preference for funky jazz, soul and disco music.
In 1988 Gary got his first big break at RADIO LUXEMBOURG. The legendary station serving western Europe was a springboard for his next move, ATLANTIC 252. This was the UK’s first national commercial network in 50 years and Gary presented the Breakfast show.
By 1993 Gary was head hunted yet again to join the line up at VIRGIN. After a spell serving the mighty Branson, Gary's attention turned to joining Heart 106.2 where he accepted an offer to host Drive time. After presenting the show for 3 years Heart’s Drive time was the stations most listened to show. Gary then moved to the No.1 radio station of the day Capital Radio for five years before moving to Magic, to become London’s No.1. Gary then turned quiz host presenting LBC’s Big Quiz Saturdays and Sundays 2-3pm before moving home to Jazz FM.
